From Bags To Riches - Renting a handbag Part 1
Posted by JW under Handbag News
Owning several fashionable luxury handbags is out of the price-range of many consumers, which has led to the arrival of handbag rental services. This is the first part of a series looking at the different options available for women who wish to carry the latest designer bag, but not be stuck with spending $600 on something that will be out of date next season.

From Bags to Riches (FBTR) is a Web-based provider of women’s fashion products, serving the domestic US market (they are currently negotiating a UK expansion). Set up in October 2004, the site allows you to rent up to three handbags at at time, just once, or as often as you like, with no monthly subscription. Prices range from $22.95 to $299.95 and include bags from designers such as Louis Vuitton, Kate Spade, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Chloe and so on.
For regular users they have launched their Club Diva rewards program. For a monthly fee a member receives discounts and exclusive rewards. Handbags are also available to purchase if the renter cannot bear to part with it.
I asked From Bags to Riches CEO and co-founder, Kara Richter, for her top tips to protect yourself from pickpocketing or purse snatching.
If you are travelling to an area where purse theft or pickpocketing is an issue:
- Be sure to use a bag that zippers shut or has some for of complex closure like the Chloe Paddington or some of the Luella bags.
- Carry important documents and most money in a travel pouch under your clothing.
- Carry your bag across your body as you might a swing pouch or messenger bag.
- Keep your bag tucked closely to you.
Having just expanded into renting designer luggage, From Bags to Riches looks as though it’s going from strength to strength. It certainly seems a viable option for those who wish to change their bag often, try a new handbag before buying one, of those who just wish to impress their friends.
